Since opening our first store in San Francisco, our scissor-cut glassware from Poland has become a hallmark of our collection. This collection exemplifies the artistry and skill of traditional glassmaking, featuring signature rippled edges that reflect a deep commitment to sustainability, artistry, and the celebration of natural beauty.
The distinctive natural edge of these glass vases, carafes, bowls, tumblers, and drinkware is achieved by molten glass that is shaped and then finely cut with specialized scissors. This process begins with an artisan gathering molten glass on a blowpipe or pontil, shaping it, and making precise cuts along the edge with glassmaking scissors while it is still molten and pliable. This demands exceptional skill and timing to ensure the perfect temperature for cutting. Too hot, and the cuts will blur; too cool, and the glass might crack.
This scissor-cut technique creates a unique, rippled rim that gives each piece its distinctive character. It is a testament to the individuality of artisanal craftsmanship and is perfect for collecting, gifting, and treasuring for years to come. No two pieces will ever be the same.
