Flatware & Knives

Flatware is the part of the table you actually touch, so it's worth getting right. A good set feels balanced in the hand, holds up to daily use, and looks like it belongs with the rest of your table. At Hudson Grace, ours runs from Italian-made stainless you'll reach for every day to colorful Sabre sets, silverplate, and vintage finishes worth setting out for a party. Most of it is European-made, and all of it is made to mix.

Whether you're building a first set or registering for the one you'll keep for years, here's where to start.

Our flatware and knives include:

• Stainless steel: Italian-made everyday sets from Mepra, like Due, Dolce Vita, and Neve, in 18/10 stainless that takes daily use and keeps its shine.
• Silverplate: A dressier, heirloom look, in styles like Roma Hotel and the Gio Ponti satin silverplate.
• Sabre Bistro: The Parisian classic with resin handles, in colors from blue, orange, and cherry red to white, black, olive, and tortoise.
• Bamboo: Sabre's lighter wood-handled sets, in light and dark, for a casual or outdoor table.
• Vintage finishes: Warm tones in Vintage Oro gold, Champagne, Bronze, and Oro Nero black.
• Steak knives: French Jean Dubost Laguiole, the set you reach for at dinner and need for grilling and the holidays.
• Table and serving knives: Laguiole table knives, carving sets, bread knives, and cheese knives to round out the table.

Stainless and Silverplate

Stainless is the everyday answer. Our Italian-made Mepra sets are 18/10, dishwasher-safe, and built to last, so they handle daily use without losing their shine. Silverplate is the dressier choice, since it brings a softer, heirloom-inspired look to the table. Because both pair easily with your dinnerware and linens, you can keep stainless for weeknights and silverplate for the occasions that call for it.

Color, Bamboo, and Vintage

Flatware doesn't have to be silver. The Sabre Bistro range comes in real color, from blue, orange, and cherry red to white, black, olive, and tortoise, so you can build one look or mix several. Sabre's bamboo sets bring a lighter, casual feel that suits an outdoor table. And when you want warmth, the vintage finishes, gold Oro, Champagne, Bronze, and black Oro Nero, dress a place setting without going bright.

Steak Knives and Table Knives

A good knife earns its keep. Our French Jean Dubost Laguiole steak knives are the ones you reach for at an everyday dinner, and they're a must for grilling season and the holiday roast at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Because they also make a thoughtful gift, a set travels well to a housewarming or a wedding. From there, the Laguiole table knives, carving sets, and bread knives round out the table.

Why You Register for Flatware

Flatware is one of the things you register for, not pick up in a pinch. Because a good set lasts decades and gets used every single day, it's worth choosing once and choosing well. So a wedding or housewarming registry is exactly the right moment. Build a full service in a style you love, then add steak knives and serving pieces to round it out. As a result, you end up with a set you'll still be reaching for in twenty years.

Common Questions

What's the best everyday flatware? Italian-made 18/10 stainless, like our Mepra sets. It's durable, dishwasher-safe, and keeps its shine, so it holds up to daily use for years.

Stainless, silverplate, or bamboo? Stainless for everyday durability, silverplate for a dressier heirloom look, and Sabre's bamboo for a casual or outdoor table. Because they all mix, many people own more than one.

Should I register for flatware? Yes. A good set lasts decades and gets used daily, so a wedding or housewarming registry is the right time to choose a style you'll keep. Add steak knives and serving pieces to complete it.
